Retention begins when your orthodontic appliances are removed and you are placed in retainers. Retainers "hold" what you have accomplished with active orthodontic treatment and slows natural shifting of teeth with time, which is natural.
Removable Retainers
Removable retainers are made, usually to be worn on a part time basis, to maintain your teeth after orthodontic treatment. They should be treated with care and kept clean with a tooth brush and toothpaste. Usually clean them before placement in your mouth and when you take them out.
Fixed Retainers
Cemented retainers are usually bonded behind the lower front teeth. Proper flossing and brushing are essential to your oral health.
